PINE VALLEY, N.Y. – The fourth-ranked Elmira College women’s ice hockey program recorded its sixth consecutive shutout on Saturday as the Soaring Eagles limited the Johnson & Wales University Wildcats to just four shots on goal in a 3-0 victory at the Murray Athletic Center.

Emma Bradbury ’26 recorded her first collegiate goal for the Soaring Eagles after finding the back of the net in the second period.

JUST THE BASICS:
SCORE: Elmira 3, Johnson & Wales 0
LOCATION: Pine Valley, New York | Murray Athletic Center
TEAM RECORDS: Elmira (7-0-0, 6-0-0 NEHC), Johnson & Wales (0-3-2, 0-3-2 NEHC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Soaring Eagles would put plenty of shots on net in the early stages of the first period and would eventually find the back of the net at the 8:46 mark. Bradbury took a shot that would be stopped by the Wildcats’ netminder before McKenzie Schmidt ’25 found the loose puck and a wide-open net to give the Purple & Gold a 1-0 advantage.

Elmira continued to bring the pressure on offense as Sophie Compeau ’25 took a shot from the high slot that would find a group of Soaring Eagles in front of the crease. Bradbury would not be denied after taking a couple of pokes to put the puck into the back of the net at the 7:07 mark of the second period to make it 2-0. Compeau and Claire Elfring ’25 assisted on Bradbury’s first goal for the Soaring Eagles.

The Wildcats had several power-play opportunities in the contest and would look to capitalize on one midway through the third period. The Soaring Eagles would have other intentions, however, as Morgan Mordini ’22 stole the puck away from a Wildcats’ defender for a breakaway opportunity. Mordini would sneak a wrist shot just under the crossbar for her fourth career short-handed goal to make it 3-0 at the 11:31 mark.

Leonie-Louise Kuehberger ’25 would not be tested much in the contest for the Soaring Eagles as she stopped four shots on goal. The shutout was Kuehberger’s fifth of the season and 14th of her career between the pipes for the Purple & Gold. Anna Maulson did her best to keep Johnson & Wales in the contest as she registered 47 saves, including 20 in the second period for the Wildcats.

UP NEXT:
The Purple & Gold return to the ice following Thanksgiving break as they travel to Plattsburgh for the Cardinal-Panther Classic. Elmira squares off against No. 1 Middlebury on Saturday beginning at 6:00 P.M.
