ELMIRA, N.Y. — Men’s lacrosse attackman Matt Daley ’24 and women’s ice hockey forward Jess Adams ’21 were named Elmira College Athletes of the Week for the week ending March 28.
A native of Plymouth, Massachusetts, Daley fueled the Soaring Eagles’ attack in their first win of the 2021 campaign, as the EC routed the Wells Express, 15-4. The rookie attacker led all players with a career- and game-high seven goals, the most by a Soaring Eagle since Jackson Correia netted seven against Utica on April 21, 2012. Daley had a natural hat trick in the second quarter, in addition to a man-up goal in the fourth. He also handed out one assist for a team-leading eight points.
Daley and the EC men’s lacrosse team return to action on Wednesday, March 31, when the Purple and Gold travel to Hamburg, New York, to face Hilbert. The Soaring Eagles and Hawks will face off at 3:00 p.m.
In a two-game series sweep of Chatham, Adams turned in two impressive outings to help Elmira outscore the Cougars 18-0. During Friday night’s home contest at the Murray Athletic Center, the senior from Holliston, Massachusetts, tied a program record with six assists to lead EC to a 12-0 triumph. Adams followed up with a hat trick in a 6-0 victory on the road Saturday afternoon. In 11 regular-season games during the condensed 2021 regular-season, Adams finished first on the team with 26 points and a career-high 17 assists.
After capturing the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) regular-season title, Adams and the EC women’s ice hockey team have set their sights on the 2021 UCHC Championships. The Soaring Eagles will host Neumann in the quarterfinal round on Thursday, April 1, at 7:00 p.m.
