Lugge Nets Two Goals as Women’s Hockey Blanks Castleton 3-0

PINE VALLEY, N.Y. – Anna Lugge ’27 netted a pair of goals to lead No. 12 Elmira College past Castleton University 3-0 in a New England Hockey Conference matchup inside the Murray Athletic Center on Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Lugge opened the scoring for the Soaring Eagles just over 10 minutes into the first period as Piper Andrews ’26 and Sabrina Shvartsman ’25 added assists on the goal.
  • MK Boyle ’26 added to the lead for the Purple & Gold in the second period with a follow-up opportunity following a shot from Sophie Compeau ’25.
  • At the 6:38 mark of the third period, it would be Lugge again for the Purple & Gold as she gave EC a 3-0 advantage. Compeau and Boyle both notched assists on Lugge’s third goal of the season for the Soaring Eagles.
  • Elmira netminder Leonie-Louise Kuehberger ’25 notched her fourth shutout of the season for the Soaring Eagles after turning aside 14 shots. The shutout is the 21st of Kuehberger’s career and is tied for second in program history with Kelcey Crawford ’18.
  • The Soaring Eagles finished the contest 0-for-3 on the power play, while Castleton finished 0-for-4 on the power play. EC held a 47-14 advantage in shots on goal and won 31-of-52 faceoffs in the contest.
