RUTLAND, VT. – The Elmira College men’s ice hockey team skated into the second half of the season with a 4-1 victory over the hosts from Castleton University in NEHC play. After falling behind 1-0 in the first period in just the 46th second of play on a score from Aiden Robson, the Soaring Eagles would settle in, scoring four unanswered over the final 59:14 of play, including the game-winner from Shawn Kennedy ’24, and a pair of goals in the third.
In addition to Kennedy, the Soaring Eagles would see goals from Cole Tucker ’25, Joel Pavey ’25, and Daniel Dimon ’24. After allowing the first period goal, Kyle Curtin ’26 would find a groove between the pipes, making 27 saves after allowing the opening goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- It wouldn’t take the Spartans long to find the back of the net, as the game’s first shot would make its way past Curtin just 46 seconds into play as Robson scored on assists from Jackson Edwards and Balint Mesterhazy.
- From there, Curtin would stop 27 consecutive shots to conclude the game, including just 14 over the final two periods of play due to a strong defensive effort from the Soaring Eagles.
- As the opening period wound to a close, Elmira would find its first goal of 2024 as Tucker worked the puck past Spartan netminder Dominic Rodrigue to knot the score at one a piece, with assists coming from Tyler Schwindt ’26 and defenseman Matt York ’26.
- Just under four minutes into the second period, Kennedy would net the game-winner for the Purple & Gold following a faceoff win. The goal would go down as unassisted, as Kennedy notched his 9th goal of the campaign.
- The Soaring Eagles would make quick work in the third, adding a pair of critical insurance goals in the first ten minutes as Pavey & Dimon each recorded the final two goals of the contest before a silent final ten minutes on the offensive side for both squads.
- Pavey would receive an assist from Kerfalla Toure ’26 on his goal, while Dimon’s, which came via the power-play following a boarding call, was assisted by Bailey Krawczyk ’24 and Amedeo Mastrangeli ’24.
