Soaring Eagles Come Back From a Goal Down to Beat Babson 4-1

PINE VALLEY, N.Y. – Elmira men’s ice hockey continued its games at home on Saturday afternoon when it hosted the Beavers of Babson College. After going a goal down early in the game, four unanswered goals by four different goalscorers helped Elmira cruise to a 4-1 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Beavers struck first at the 2:55 mark in the first period, putting Elmira in an early hole.
  • Neither team scored again during the first period and Elmira took a 1-0 deficit entering the first intermission. After 6:22 of play in the second, the Soaring Eagles responded, nabbing a goal of their own via Jared Smith ’24 on the power play, giving him five goals on the season and tying the game for Elmira. Nicholas Domitrovic ’24 was credited with the assist on the opening goal.
  • The Purple & Gold struck again later in the period, with Smith now providing the assist for Ryan Reifler ’24 to make the game 2-1 at the 16:07 mark in the second. Chance Gorman ’24 also tallied an assist on the go-ahead goal for the Soaring Eagles.
  • EC got its third four minutes into the third period, with Jordan Gonzalez ’24 scoring his fourth goal of the season giving Elmira the two-goal advantage with under 16 minutes left to play. Janis Vizbelis ’24 added an assist on the goal.
  • The Soaring Eagles got one more goal, scoring into an empty net with six seconds left in the game. Amedeo Mastrangeli ’24 collected the goal, his second of the season, while Cole Tucker ’25 and Joel Pavey ’25 picked up the assists, sealing the 4-1 victory for Elmira.
  • Kyle Curtin ’26 started in goal for Elmira and tallied 30 saves during the afternoon.
