Memo to the International Olympic Committee: It’s time to get ball hockey and/or roller hockey into the Summer Olympics.
Seriously, have you guys seen some of these events? 3-on-3 basketball with no name players? No, thanks.
At any rate, we kicked off the latest summer edition of Leafs Morning Take by discussing the Olympics. As we’ve found out over the past few weeks, Jay Rosehill’s a big fan and has been closely watching the festivities. Speaking of which, Jani Hakanpaa was recently spotted at a charity golf tournament in Finland dawning a Dallas Stars uniform. What’s the deal with that? Honestly, what a weird situation. The amusing part about everything is that no one will comment on what’s truly going on —including his agent. I guess we’ll find out in September.
Presented by Greta Bar YYZ, we broke down the 3-year ELC handed out to Ben Danford, who joined us on the show a few weeks ago. All in all, we both agreed that the Leafs need to exercise patience with his development. That said, it will help the Ontario native immensely having the likes of Jake Muzzin and Chris Tanev at his disposal on a consistent basis.
After that, we welcomed in long-time NHL broadcaster, former NHL head coach, and former Maple Leaf Eddie Olczyk. It was his first time on the show. Most specifically, Edzo had two great stories that he shared. The first one was about where he was when he found out that the Leafs had traded him to Winnipeg. Additionally, he also shared a great one about the legendary George Armstrong. Also, Eddie dished on Toronto’s offseason, Mitch Marner, Craig Berube’s arrival, and Auston Matthews.
We’ll be back in the mix on Wednesday. Former Leafs blue liner Cory Cross will drop by the show.
