Through a statement on Sunday, the Colorado Avalanche said they are working with St. Louis police to investigate alleged threats towards forward Nazem Kadri.
This comes after Kadri was involved in a collision that injured St. Louis Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington. Binnington is out for the rest of the series with a lower-body injury.
“The Avalanche organization is aware of threats made toward Nazem Kadri and is working with local law enforcement to investigate,†the team said in a statement on Sunday.
“We take threats made to any of our Players or other Club personnel seriously,” NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly said in a statement tweeted out by Darren Drager. “We are in touch with St. Louis Police Department and they are employing enhanced security procedures both at the arena and in the hotelâ€.
Former Calgary Flames player Akim Aliu tweeted about the incident, saying he talked with Kadri and that the Avalanche forward received racist threats as a result of in the incident.
The Avalanche and Blues are set to play Game 4 tonight in St. Louis. The Avalanche hold a 2-1 series lead.
