Beniers: “Unbelievable Deal and Now I Just Get to Play Hockey!”

Matty Beniers was excited to speak to the local media this morning at the Kraken’s practice facility about his 7-year, $50 million contract extension.

“It’s an unbelievable deal, and now I just get to play hockey!” Now that Beniers has secured his extension, the 6’2″, 178 lb left-handed center is focusing on his health and fitness ahead of the team’s first training camp. The first item on his to-do list is increasing his caloric intake and gaining more weight.

Beniers is looking forward to working with the rookies at training camp and welcoming his new teammates Chandler Stephenson and Brandon Montour. “All of them seem like great guys, from what I’ve heard, and a perfect fit for our group.”

Following Beniers’ interview, Adam Larsson and GM Ron Francis spoke to the media.

Beniers History with the Kraken:

  • The Kraken’s first-ever draft selection in the 2021 NHL Draft

  • Signed a three-year, entry-level contract in April of 2022

  • NHL debut on April 12, 2022

  • 1st NHL goal on April 16, 2022 as Kraken win at home over the New Jersey Devils

  • Nominated to participate in the 2023 NHL All-Star Game (scratched due to injury)

  • Winner of the 2023 Calder Memorial Trophy (NHL’s Rookie of the Year award)

Next up for both Beniers and Larsson is Kraken training camp starting on September, 19th.
