After using their first three picks in the 2022 NHL Draft on centers, the Boston Bruins have selected a defenseman in the fifth round.
The Bruins traded their third-round pick (No. 91 overall) to the Seattle Kraken for the No. 117 and No. 132 selections. Boston took QMJHL defenseman Frederic Brunet with the No. 132 overall pick in Round 5.
2022 NHL Draft tracker: Here’s every Bruins pick from all seven rounds
Brunet tallied 46 points (12 goals, 34 assists) in 63 games for Rimouski Oceanic last season. He’s listed at 6-foot-2 and 175 pounds. He also shoots left.
Brunet was announced as a defenseman when the pick was made, but he’s also played a little bit of forward in his career, so he’s definitely a versatile player.
The Bruins don’t often draft players from the QMJHL. The last player Boston selected from Quebec’s league was Cedric Pare in 2017. He never played a game for the B’s.
