The Devils announced they extended PTO contracts to defenseman Jakub Zboril and goaltender Michael Hutchinson.
NEWARK, N.J. — On Thursday, New Jersey Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald announced the club signed goaltender Michael Hutchinson and defenseman Jakub Zboril to Professional Tryout contracts.
Both players will report to training camp on Sept. 18 with the rest of the club’s veterans.
Hutchinson, 34, appeared in one game for the Detroit Red Wings last season against the Devils. New Jersey won the game 3-2, with Hutchinson making 33 saves on 36 shots.
He spent most of 2023-24 with the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League (AHL). There, he earned a record of 14-14-3 with a 0.892 save percentage.
He has appeared in 154 NHL games with the Red Wings, Columbus Blue Jackets, Toronto Maple Leafs, Colorado Avalanche, Florida Panthers, and Winnipeg Jets throughout his career. Hutchinson has additionally appeared in 241 AHL games.
Zboril’s last NHL game was on Apr. 9, 2023, when he was a member of the Boston Bruins. Less than a year later, on Mar. 8, 2024, Boston traded him and a third-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft to the Blue Jackets for Andrew Peeke.
The 27-year-old spent 2023-24 in the AHL with the Providence Bruins and Cleveland Monsters. The left-shot defenseman earned 13 points, all assists. He appeared in 14 playoff games with the Monsters, collecting four points (one goal, three assists).
Zboril, who is listed at 6-foot-1, 199 pounds, was drafted by the Bruins 13th overall in the 2015 NHL Draft and has 76 games of NHL experience.
