The NHL held its 2022 Draft Lottery on Tuesday night and the Devils secured the second overall pick while the Islanders will pick 13th overall.
The Islanders had a 2 percent chance of getting the number one overall pick, while the Devils, who had the fifth-worst record in the NHL, had a 8.5 percent chance. The Montreal Canadiens had the highest odds to get the first pick with a 18.5 percent chance and they won the honor.
After the Canadiens and Devils, the Arizona Coyotes, Seattle Kraken, and Philadelphia Flyers round out the top five picks of the upcoming draft.
The first round of the draft will be held July 7 at Bell Centre in Montreal. Rounds 2-7 will take place July 8.
Last year, the Devils picked No .4 overall and chose Luke Hughes, the younger brother of center Jack Hughes, out of the University of Michigan. The Devils also had the No. 29 pick and selected Chase Stillman who played for Peterborough in the OHL.
The Islandersâ first pick in last yearâs draft didnât come until No. 52 where they selected Aatu Raty out of Finland.
