Flint, Mich. – The Flint Firebirds announced today that 2023 first-round pick Jeremy Martin has committed to an Ontario Hockey League standard player agreement with the club.
“I am very honored and excited to start the next chapter in my career,” Martin said. “I can’t wait to get started in Flint.”
“We are excited to add Jeremy to the Firebirds family,” Head Coach and General Manager Ted Dent said. “He plays a hard physical game and his skating is excellent. We had an opportunity to meet Jeremy and his family at our development camp last week, and we are all excited to start his future with Flint.”
Martin was selected 15th overall in the 2023 OHL Priority Selection draft by the Firebirds after having a great season with the Toronto Marlboros U16 in the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL). The Ajax, Ont. native produced 28 G and 15 A in 32 GP, and added 3 G, and 1 A while going +3 in 5 GP at the OHL Cup.
“It was amazing to meet everyone (at development camp),” Martin said. “The organization welcomed me, and all the players, with respect and treated me professionally. It was great to see the facilities and it was an all-around great time.”
The 6-foot-0, 179-pound forward plans on wearing number-15 in Flint.
Scouting Report from Head Scout Mike Oliverio: “We like how he plays. He is a physical player and plays a heavy game. He has the skill to match and always is coming at you. He plays with pace and has an exceptional first three steps and a scoring touch with a pro-like shot.”
