The Flyers acquired Evan Barratt from the Blackhawks in a minor-league trade Wednesday. In exchange for the 23-year-old forward, the Flyers sent defenseman Cooper Zech to Chicago.
Barratt was drafted by the Blackhawks two rounds ahead of Flyers forward Noah Cates in 2017. The third-round selection had gone scoreless in two games with Chicago’s AHL affiliate Rockford this season. Last season, Barratt put up 14 goals, 14 assists and 70 penalty minutes in 63 games for the IceHogs.
The 6-foot, 187-pounder is a Penn State product and from Bristol, Pennsylvania. He’ll report to AHL affiliate Lehigh Valley, which is an hour-plus drive from Barratt’s hometown.
Zech, a 23-year-old, offensive-minded defenseman, is in the second year of a two-year, $1.75 million deal he signed with the Flyers during July 2021. The 5-foot-10, 167-pounder had yet to play for the Phantoms this season. Last season, he had a goal and 10 assists through 53 games with Lehigh Valley.
