Former Philadelphia Flyers forward Sam Gagner is one of the more notable forwards still available on the free-agent market. Earlier this month, it was reported that Gagner wants to continue his NHL career instead of hanging up the skates. Now, we have received another update on that front.

While speaking with The Edmonton Journal’s Jim Matheson, Gagner not only specified that he plans to continue playing in 2024-25 but also has multiple professional tryout (PTO) offers on the table.
Here is what Gagner said to Matheson on the matter: “I feel really good, so we will see what happens in the next month or so. I have some PTO offers and hopefully, I can get a contract. But we’ll see where it goes.”
Gagner, 35, spent this past season with the Edmonton Oilers, posting five goals, 10 points, and a minus-2 rating in 28 games. He also appeared in 15 AHL contests with the Bakersfield Condors in 2024-25, recording three goals and nine points.
It is not too surprising to hear that Gagner has received some PTO offers, as he is a solid veteran forward who can still work in a depth role.
In 1,043 career games over 17 NHL seasons split between the Oilers, Arizona Coyotes, Flyers, Columbus Blue Jackets, Vancouver Canucks, Detroit Red Wings, Winnipeg Jets, and Edmonton Oilers, Gagner has 197 goals, 332 assists, and 529 points. In his lone season as a Flyer in 2015-16, he had eight goals and 16 points in 53 games.
