Former Syracuse Crunch and Hartford Wolf Pack defenseman Sean Day has signed a two-year contract with HV71 of the Swedish Hockey League.
A third round pick of the New York Rangers in 2016, Day spent last season with the Syracuse Crunch where he recorded 23 points in 54 games last season.
Day is one of six players who have received exceptional status in the Ontario Hockey League and one of nine in Canadian Hockey League history, which allowed him to enter junior hockey one-year early. He won the Memorial Cup with the Windsor Spitfires in 2017.

He played his first and only two career NHL games with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2021-22.
Despite not living up to his junior hockey pedigree Day has had a solid professional career, notching 110 points in 277 career AHL games and 35 points in 55 ECHL games.
Day will reunite with goaltender Hugo Alnefelt, who he was teammates with for parts of the past three seasons with Syracuse. HV71’s press release cites the two as close friends who are excited for a reunion.
Now considered a veteran under the AHL’s development rules as he has played more than 260 professional games, this likely limited Day’s option to remain in North America.
