With Easter just around the corner, the Leafs sure did lay an egg against the Devils on Tuesday night at Scotiabank Arena.
The buzz word exiting the night was immaturity, which was probably extremely accurate.
We kicked off the Wednesday edition of Leafs Morning Take by addressing the non-sensical Tweet from Tuesday randomly running down Zach Hyman. You can go search it. We will not be promoting it directly. At any rate, Rosey had some choice words for the author of said Tweet. It was a weird take —a bad take.
Presented by DoorDash, the Appetizer focused on the nuts and bolts of Toronto’s 6-3 loss to New Jersey. Indisputably, the goaltending was a big story. Jake Allen was superb making 42 stops. Meantime, Joseph Woll, who allowed the first shot on goal to go in for the second straight game, delivered another mediocre performance surrendering five goals on 24 shots. Furthermore, Auston Matthews potted his 59th and William Nylander netted his 40th —which tied his career high.
Brought to you by Tim Hortons, we talked a bit about Mark Giordano. On Tuesday, the 40-year-old, who’s been out since February 29th due to a concussion, was cleared to return. It will be fascinating to see how he’s deployed down the stretch.
After that, we took our weekly look at the Atlantic Division standings, sponsored by Charm Diamond Centres. Suddenly, Tampa’s just four points back of Toronto for third. The next few weeks should be mighty interesting —that’s for sure.
Lastly, we got to our Great Clips inbox question of the day. We were asked about Sheldon Keefe’s coaching future if the Leafs don’t get to the Eastern Conference Final. A lot of it will be about how they look and perform.
