Matthew Knies is captain material & Joseph Woll turns in a signature performance: Leafs Morning Take

The passion has been activated.

What a goal for Matthew Knies, what a performance from Joseph Woll.

It’s time for the Maple Leafs to win a playoff game on home ice.

We kicked off the Wednesday edition of Leafs Morning Take by sharing our initial thoughts on everything that transpired at TD Garden on Tuesday night. Top to bottom, the Leafs put forth a monster effort and were fully deserving of the victory. For some reason, they always seem to step up to the plate when they’re missing a marquee player.

Presented by Greta Bar YYZ, the breakdown of Game 5 started with a free-flowing conversation about Knies, his former landlord John Tavares, and of course, Woll. You need people to step up this time of year, and a bunch of guys certainly did. Max Domi was another. He went 12-2 in the face-off circle, and most importantly, he did a superb job centering the top line alongside Tyler Bertuzzi and Mitch Marner. That line was fantastic. Kudos to Marner for elevating his play after a tough Game 4. He was making plays out there. Lastly, we did touch on special teams. Incredibly, the Leafs PP is now 1-for-17 in the series. That needs to change, or they have no shot of finally conquering Boston.

After that, brought to you by Douglas, we welcomed in our very own Carter Hutton for a full analysis on the crease. Firstly, we got his thoughts on Woll before shifting the conversation to Boston’s crease. Does Jim Montgomery go back to Jeremy Swayman for Game 6, or do they deviate from the ‘plan’ and swing back to Linus Ullmark? Decisions, decisions.

Make sure to join us for the Thursday edition of Leafs Morning Take for an all-encompassing Game 6 preview. Also, Daily Faceoff’s Matt Larkin, who’s on the Leafs beat for the series, will drop by to share his thoughts.
