First off, thank you to all the brave men and women who have served/serve for this amazing country.
Lest we forget.
All in all, it was a strong weekend for the Maple Leafs. That said, it came at a cost as they lost veteran forward Max Pacioretty to a hamstring injury. On Monday morning, the Leafs placed him on IR, and at this point, he’s considered week-to-week. A lot of this will depend on how his body responds to treatment. All things considered, though, Pacioretty dodged a big-time bullet. He’s been a super addition for this team thus far. Cheers to a speedy recovery!
Naturally, that’s where the conversation started on the Remembrance Day edition of Leafs Morning Take. After discussing Pacioretty, we shifted over to some Calle Jarnkrok talk. Late last week, Craig Berube said there’s no timetable for his potential return. Then, on Monday, the Leafs revealed that he’s suffered a setback from his recovery and is heading to New York to see a specialist. Not at all, folks.
Courtesy of Prime Video, we went over some notes from practice before offering up a full recap of the perfect weekend. Most notably, since Auston Matthews went down, the power play has been fantastic going 7-for-13. In three short games, they’ve gone from last in the league to 12th —go figure! Meantime, Mitch Marner has been on fire, so has William Nylander. Needless to say, the Leafs are back playing Craig Berube hockey, and that’s why the results have followed suit. If you’re keeping score at home, Toronto’s now 38-19-2 all-time without Matthews in the lineup. Wild stuff.
Brought to you by Charm Diamond Centres, former Hab/current co-host of La Poche Bleue Max Lapierre dropped by the show to dish on Saturday night’s tilt. All in all, the former pest was very complimentary of the Maple Leafs. He likes where they’re at right now. He even went as far as to compare John Tavares to what Ryan O’Reilly was like for Craig Berube in St. Louis. Spoiler: ROR won the Conn Smythe in 2019.
At any rate, be sure to join us for the Tuesday edition of Leafs Morning Take as we preview the first instalment of the Battle of Ontario and the final game of the four game home stand.
