A weekend full of Premier Hockey Federation action wrapped up on Sunday afternoon with a trio of games.
Boston Pride 1, Montreal Force 2 OT
Jade Downie-Landry scored on the power play at 4:02 of the extra frame to give Montreal their first ever overtime win and victory against Boston. Taylor Baker opened the scoring for the Force with her first career PHF goal, and top scorer Loren Gabel tied it for the Pride with a brilliant end-to-end effort for her 14th of the season. Marie-Soleil Deschenes denied 36 shots for her third win, and Corinne Schroeder made 43 saves in defeat. The two points keeps Montreal ahead of the Riveters for fifth place in the standings, meanwhile the single point for Boston extends their first place lead over T6. It was an emotional triumph for the Force, just minutes following a scary collision involving teammate Christine Deaudelin who was stretchered off the ice and taken to local hospital. She is doing well and will be re-evaluated this week.
Connecticut Whale 4, Toronto Six 1
The Whale became the first team in PHF history to earn a regulation win over T6 on Canadian ice. Connecticut controlled the play early and often building a 4-0 lead they would hold. Kennedy Marchment paced the offense with a pair of goals including the second period game-winner and a shorthanded tally in the third. Alyssa Wohlfeiler opened the scoring and Caitrin Lonergan provided the insurance marker. Brittany Howard scored Toronto’s lone goal, her league-leading 15th of the season. Abbie Ives turned aside 31 shots for her fifth win of the campaign. Elaine Chuli took the loss with 28 saves. Connecticut’s three points helps widen the gap over fifth place Montreal as the Whale inch closer to third place Minnesota. Toronto remains in second place behind Boston.
Metropolitan Riveters 8, Buffalo Beauts 2
The Riveters rebounded in a big way following a Saturday night loss in Buffalo. Tied 2-2 after 40 minutes, the team unloaded for six goals in the third period to score a season-high eight against the Beauts. Kelly Babstock scored the team’s first two goals and finished with three points in a performance matched by captain Madison Packer. Minttu Tuominen began the final frame onslaught and finished with both a goal and an assist, as did Kendall Cornine and Reagan Rust. Sarah Bujold capped the team’s scoring efforts. Courtney Maud scored for the second straight game for the Beauts, and Mikyla Grant-Mentis fired one home on the power play. Katie Burt stopped 18 shots for her second win of the season. A busy Tera Hofmann made 41 saves in the loss. The Rivs win re-gains a six point lead over Buffalo for sixth place and puts them just two behind Montreal for fifth.
