Have the Leafs learned their lesson? We will soon find out.
That’s the biggest question heading into tonight’s tilt with the lowly Columbus Blue Jackets. So sad. This was supposed to be Mike Babcock’s homecoming. Yeah, about that.
We kicked off the Thursday edition of Leafs Morning Take by discussing the mess in Columbus and how their tough start was sparked by Babcock’s departure. At this point, it’s unlikely we’ll see the much maligned behind a NHL bench again. And rightfully so.
Presented by Door Dash, The Appetizer focused on the Team Canada announcement from Wednesday night. In case you missed it, a pair of Leafs prospects made the squad. Fraser Minten was a lock from Day 1 but full credit to Easton Cowan for pushing his way onto the squad. The legend continues to grow. Remember how much heat Brad Treliving took for that first round selection?
Meantime, courtesy the Wendy’s Daily Faceoff Survivor, we previewed Toronto/Columbus. Of course, the big story heading into the matchup is whether or not the Leafs can find a way to persevere against a lesser opponent. That’s not one of their strong points —that’s for sure.
After that, thanks to our friends over at BATL Axe, Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos dropped by for a chat. We touched on everything from Mitch Marner’s up and down start to who the Leafs should target between now and the trade deadline on March 8th. Additionally, as per usual, Kyper was bitterly honest regarding his thoughts on the team —as currently constructed.
Let’s wrap the week up in style. Join us on Friday at 11 AM ET as we recap Leafs/Jackets as well as look ahead to Kyle Dubas’ return to Toronto on Saturday night. Can’t forget about Jason Spezza either, right?
