NORTH BAY, Ont. — Centre Nolan Laird has signed a standard player’s agreement, including an education package, with the North Bay Battalion, the Ontario Hockey League club announced Monday.
Laird, who measures six feet and 152 pounds, was an eighth-round pick in the 2022 OHL Priority Selection from the Clarington Toros U16s.
A native of Port Perry, Ont., Laird played in 2022-23 with the Ajax-Pickering Raiders U18 team, scoring 22 goals and earning 21 assists for 43 points with 36 penalty minutes in 36 regular-season games. He added five goals and nine assists for 14 points with 14 PiM in eight playoff games.
“Nolan followed up a great training camp last fall with a fine season,” said Battalion general manager Adam Dennis. “He provides a nice combination of size, speed, skill and grit that will complement our next wave quite nicely.
“We look forward to seeing Nolan at our conditioning camp next weekend.”
Laird is among more than 30 expected to attend the camp, which starts Friday evening and ends at noon Sunday.
The Battalion has signed six other skaters and one goaltender selected in 2022, with first-round pick Ethan Procyszyn, a centre and right winger, leading the way among three who played the season with the Troops, the others being Jacob Therrien, who has skated on both wings, and defenceman Brayden Turley.
Others signed are defenceman Tyson Rismond, goaltender Mike McIvor, centre Dylan Richter and right winger Lirim Amidovski, all of whom saw limited OHL action.
