BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — Academic All-District honors for “at-large” sports have been announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and several Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) student-athletes have been recognized with selection.

The MIAC landed a total of seven student-athletes on the at-large teams, including four women’s hockey players in Augsburg’s Payton Allen, Gustavus’ Kayla Vrieze, Hamline’s Sophie Rausch, and St. Scholastica’s Lori Huseby. Gustavus’ Nick Aney earned the accolade for the second year in a row in men’s tennis, while Augsburg’s Austin Martinsen was recognized in men’s hockey, and St. Scholastica’s Hannah Garcia was selected in women’s golf.

Though not competing in MIAC sports, Augsburg’s Tyler Shilson – a 4.00 finance major – received Academic All-District honors in men’s wrestling, Gustavus’ Booke Merila was selected as a 3.97 nursing major for women’s gymnastics, and Macalester women’s water polo student-athlete Eleanor Michaud earned the award with a 3.99 GPA in biology.

Top student-athletes from NCAA Division III programs in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan are eligible for inclusion on the District 6 team, one of eight Division III districts nationwide. Student-athletes must have a grade-point average above 3.30 (4.0 scale) and have outstanding athletic credentials. College sports information directors in the district vote for the teams.

Honorees selected Academic All-District will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. Academic All-America honorees will be announced in June.
