The San Jose Sharks came back from down 3-0 but ultimately fell in a shootout 4-3 on Monday.
Erik Johnson, Travis Konecny, and Matvei Michkov scored for the Flyers. Michkov’s goal was his fifth of the season and he scored in the shoot out. Samuel Ersson started and made 27 saves.
Jack Thompson scored his second NHL goal. Mikael Granlund and Barclay Goodrow scored the other goals for the Sharks. William Eklund had two assists and impacted the game tremendously. Vitek Vanecek made 39 saves.
Will Smith returned from a development day and was moved to the wing on the Sharks third line. This is the first time he’s played on the wing in his young NHL career.
Johnson joined the Flyers rush and made the Sharks pay for leaving Will Smith to cover Jan Rutta at the point. Johnson and the Flyers had an odd-man rush and made a cross-ice pass to create the goal.
Johnson would then fight Givani Smith off the ensuing face-off.
Konecny made the Sharks pay with a powerplay goal with 4:04 left in the first to make it 2-0 Flyers.
Michkov is sent in on a breakaway, and he beats Vanecek five-hole to make it a 3-0 game.
William Eklund made a great play on the backcheck and then drove the puck to the net to find Thompson to make it a 3-1 game.
Eklund makes another fantastic play with a back-against-the-grain pass to Granlund, who snipes home a goal to make it 3-2.
Goodrow tied the game with 2:24 left in the third with a slap shot from the wing.
Konency wins it for the Flyers.
