ATTLEBORO, MASS. – The No. 10 nationally ranked Elmira College women’s ice hockey program tallied a pair of first-period goals en route to a 4-1 victory in New England Hockey Conference action against Johnson & Wales University on Friday night. The win pushes Elmira to 13-0-0 this season against NEHC opponents.

LOCATION: Attleboro, Massachusetts
TEAM RECORDS: Elmira (15-5-0, 13-0-0 NEHC), Johnson & Wales (4-12-2, 4-7-2 NEHC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Soaring Eagles would strike first in the contest as Holley Riva ’23 netted her seventh goal of the season at the 15:27 mark to give the Purple & Gold a 1-0 advantage. The goal would come with Elmira short a skater as the short-handed tally was Riva’s fourth of her career and tied her for sixth all-time in program history with Morgan Mordini ’22, Jaclyn O’Neil ’06, and Ashley Ryan ’15.

Elmira added to its lead with less than two minutes left to play in the period as Jenny Heath ’22 netted her sixth goal of the season at the 18:11 mark to make it 2-0. The Soaring Eagles would also have three chances on the power play in the first period as Elmira tallied eight shots but would be unable to convert with the extra skater.

Johnson & Wales would get onto the board early in the second period as a shot off the stick of Skylar Robert found the back of the net at the 2:37 mark to trim Elmira’s lead to 2-1. The Soaring Eagles would answer later in the frame as Mary McCafferty ’22 tallied a goal on the power play to make it 3-1 at the 8:36 mark. Katie Manning ’25 and Mordini would each be credited with assists on McCafferty’s sixth goal of the season.

Mordini would push Elmira’s lead to 4-1 with the lone goal of the third period as her team-leading 10th tally of the season at the 15:37 mark would cap the scoring with assists going to Riva and McCafferty.

Leonie-Louise Kuehberger ’25 improved to 13-4-0 on the season after making 13 saves for the Soaring Eagles. Elmira held a 63-14 advantage in shots on goal in the contest and had a combined 25 faceoff wins from McCafferty and Claire Meeder ’23.
