The Vegas Golden Knights released their opening roster which doesn’t feature William Karlsson, who will start the season on the IR and Brendan Brisson, who will head to the head AHL with the Henderson Silver Knights.
The Golden Knights made two moves on the waiver wire yesterday placing claims for Raphael Lavoie and Cole Schwindt. After making successful claims, the Golden Knights elected to keep them on their NHL roster and assign Brisson to the Silver Knights.

Karlsson’s landing on the IR isn’t a surprise at the moment, but two weeks ago, it would have been. HC Bruce Cassidy claimed it was maintenance for injury-related reasons. Missing one or two practices due to maintenance is normal, but once it was pushed past that, it became clear that the 31-year-old was dealing with something more significant.

Without Karlsson, the Golden Knights will be carrying 13 forwards: Ivan Barbashev, Pavel Dorofeyev, Jack Eichel, Tomas Hertl, Alexander Holtz, Brett Howden, Keegan Kolesar, Raphael Lavoie, Victor Olofsson, Tanner Pearson, Nicolas Roy, Cole Schwindt, and Mark Stone.
They’ll carry eight defensemen: Nicolas Hague, Noah Hanifin, Ben Hutton, Kaedan Korczak, Brayden McNabb, Alex Pietrangelo, Shea Theodore and Zach Whitecloud. The two goaltenders will be Adin Hill and Ilya Samsonov.
Lukas Cornier, Jakub Demek, and Jordan Gustafson are all listed as injured as well.
The Golden Knights begin their quest to be named Stanley Cup champions for the second time on Wednesday, Oct. 9, when they host the Colorado Avalanche at 7:00 P.M. PST at T-Mobile Arena.
