The Islanders signed forward Oliver Wahlstrom to a one-year contract on Monday afternoon.

The 23-year-old had been a restricted free agent, and though he did not accept the team’s qualifying offer ahead of the July 15 deadline, he’s ended up back on Long Island anyway.

A first-round pick of the Islanders in the 2018 NHL Draft out of Boston College, Wahlstrom has played a combined 161 regular season games at the NHL level, including 35 games this past season. His most productive season came in 2021-22, when he scored 13 goals and added 11 assists in 73 games. He also racked up 74 penalty minutes.

This past season for the Islanders, Wahlstrom recorded seven goals and nine assists in 35 games.
