Kingston, ON – The Kingston Frontenacs Hockey Club is pleased to announce that Anthony and Chris Stewart will be honoured during the team’s game on Saturday, January 14th, 2023 at the Leon’s Centre. The Stewart brothers will see their numbers honoured and raised to the rafters as a tribute to the accomplishments they had as members of the Frontenacs.

Anthony Stewart was selected in the first-round of the 2001 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection by the Kingston Frontenacs. The Scarborough, Ontario native appeared in 248 games for the Frontenacs from 2001 until 2005. He served as the team’s captain for two of his four seasons with the hockey club (2003-2005). Anthony scored 118 goals and collected 120 assists for 238 points during his OHL career in Kingston. Anthony sits 10th all-time in goals scored (118) and games played (248) in franchise history.

Anthony was selected 25th overall in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by the Florida Panthers and he went on to play 12-years professionally before retiring and starting a career in broadcasting.

“I am humbled and grateful”, said Anthony Stewart when told his jersey number will be honoured with his brother on January 14th at Leon’s Centre. “It’s definitely a great honour and I’m very fond of my time in Kingston. I owe a lot to the city and fans. I’m definitely excited and at a loss for words, which is tough because I have to use my words for a living. I just want to say thank you to the Kingston Frontenacs organization.”

Chris Stewart took a different path than Anthony, but it led to success with the Frontenacs and a professional hockey career. After taking a year off from hockey, Chris Stewart made the Kingston Frontenacs roster as a walk-on and played his OHL rookie season in 2004-05. Chris played in 187 games with Kingston from 2004 until 2007. He scored 91 goals and dished out 108 assists for 199 points. Chris was named the captain of the Frontenacs in his final season during the 2006-2007 campaign.

Chris was selected 18th overall by the Colorado Avalanche during the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. He went on to play 14 professional seasons before joining the Philadelphia Flyers in a player development role after retiring in 2020.

“Wow, that’s amazing,” said an enthusiastic Chris Stewart when told the news. “Every kid has that dream of seeing their number raised to the rafters when they are grown up. Having it go up there with my brother is even more special. I’m beyond excited and it’s the utmost pleasure.”

You can be a part of the crowd and help celebrate this special evening on Saturday, January 14th, 2023 at Leon’s Centre starting at 7:00 pm.
