Goleniak Nets Two Goals as Women’s Hockey Blanks Suffolk, 5-0

UTICA, N.Y. – Erika Goleniak ’25 netted a pair of goals to go along with an assist as the No. 12 Elmira College women’s ice hockey program recorded a 5-0 shutout in the consolation match at the Utica University Kickoff Tournament on Saturday at the Nexus Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Payton Nicksic ’26 opened the scoring in the contest with a goal at the 9:33 mark of the first period for the Soaring Eagles. Nicksic’s first goal of the season was set up by Goleniak and Alayna Toole ’26.
  • Elmira would net its first shorthanded goal of the season at the 14:23 mark as Claire Meeder ’23 found the back of the net after taking a feed from Madi Morton ’24 to give the Purple & Gold a 2-0 advantage.
  • Goleniak netted her first of two goals on the night at the 18:07 mark of the first period as she beat the Suffolk goalie off a rush. Anna Lugge ’27 notched the first of her two helpers on the night as she set up the third goal of the contest for Elmira.
  • It would be Goleniak again finding the back of the net at the 1:34 mark of the second period to give the Purple & Gold a 4-0 advantage. Lugge and Katie Manning ’25 both registered the assists on Goleniak’s tally.
  • The lone goal of the third period would come from Piper Andrews ’26 at the 6:34 mark as she found herself alone in front of the Suffolk goalie. Mo McBride ’27 and Kelly Millins ’23 were both credited with the assists on Andrews’ first goal of the season.
  • Leonie-Louise Kuehberger ’25 recorded her first shutout of the season between the pipes for the Soaring Eagles after making 15 saves. Kuehberger made four saves in the first, eight in the second, and three in the third period. Elmira held a 47-15 advantage in shots against the Rams.
