Greg Haney Named As Finalist for Division III Women’s CCM/AHCA Coach of the Year

ELMIRA, N.Y. –  The American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) announced its Division III Women’s CCM/AHCA Coach of the Year Finalists on Monday afternoon, with Elmira head coach Greg Haney earning one of the 12 nominations.

In his first year at Elmira, Haney has guided the Soaring Eagles to a 22-7-1 and helped them to its second NEHC championship title after defeating the Huskies of Southern Maine 2-0, earning a spot in the NCAA Tournament. In the tournament, Haney has brought Elmira to the NCAA semifinals after wins against No. 7 Cortland and No. 5 Amherst. Under Haney, five Soaring Eagles earned All-Conference honors.

Elmira recorded two separate six-game winning streaks during the regular season, notching wins against No. 11 Cortland and No. 14 Nazareth. The Soaring Eagles scored 10+ points on two occasions in 2023-24 while recording 13 shutouts. EC posted a 14-3-1 conference record and a 12-1-1 record at the Murray Athletic Center. In Elmira’s 30 games played, it scored the most goals of any NEHC team with 117. In conference play, the Purple & Gold scored the most goals in the NEHC (80) while conceding the fewest (12), and allowed the fewest number of shots on goal (242).

The Soaring Eagles will take on the Panthers from Middlebury College this Friday in the NCAA Division III semifinals hosted by UW-River Falls.
