Late Goals Propel Soaring Eagles to 3-1 Victory over No. 10 Skidmore

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Soaring Eagles stayed on the road looking to continue their strong form against the No. 10 Thoroughbreds of Skidmore College. After going down a goal early in the game, Elmira tied it up less than two minutes later before taking the lead in the third period. EC added another to seal the victory, beating Skidmore 3-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Elmira got off to a slow start in the first period, giving up a goal two and a half minutes into the game to put it in an early 1-0 disadvantage.
  • The Purple & Gold responded quickly, scoring under two minutes later at the 4:05 mark in the first period on a goal from Mitch Haight ’24, his second goal of the season. He was assisted by Ryan Reifler ’24 and Chance Gorman ’24.
  • That was all the scoring that occurred in the first period, and after a scoreless second, the Soaring Eagles found themselves in a one-all battle with the Thoroughbreds heading into the final 20 minutes of regulation.
  • Elmira found its breakthrough 12 minutes into the third period through a Gorman goal on a power play, his seventh of the season. Jared Smith ’24 and Jordan Gonzalez ’24 were credited with assists on the go-ahead goal by the Soaring Eagles.
  • EC found a third with less than a minute remaining in the game on a Kennedy goal scored into an empty net to ensure the Soaring Eagles left with a victory. Nicholas Domitrovic ’24 assisted Kennedy’s tenth goal of the season.
  • Amedeo Mastrangeli ’24 led the Soaring Eagles with seven shots on goal during the match, a season-high for the defenseman.
  • Kyle Curtin ’26 started between the posts for the Soaring Eagles, making 40 saves during the match.
