Women’s Hockey Blanks Plymouth State on Saturday Afternoon 7-0

PINE VALLEY, N.Y. – Three first-period goals proved to be enough as the No. 12 Elmira College women’s hockey program notched a 7-0 shutout victory against Plymouth State University on Saturday in New England Hockey Conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • MK Boyle ’26 opened the scoring in the contest as she gave the Purple & Gold a 1-0 lead at the 5:55 mark of the first period. Mandy McCarrick ’26 registered the assist on Boyle’s tally for EC.
  • Elmira added to its lead at the 14:34 mark of the first period as Erika Goleniak ’25 tallied her team-leading eighth goal of the season to make it 2-0. The goal was unassisted after Goleniak found a loose puck off the boards in the offensive zone.
  • Anna Lugge ’27 continued her goal-scoring streak for the Soaring Eagles as she netted her third goal of the weekend and first of the contest at the 19:10 mark of the first period to make it 3-0. Emily Lenzen ’24 was credited with the assist after taking the initial shot from the point that would be tipped by Lugge.
  • Claire Meeder ’23 tallied the lone goal of the second period for the Purple & Gold as she found the back of the net with EC on the power play with just over a minute left to play in the frame. The goal would be set up by Madi Morton ’24, who recorded her team-leading ninth assist of the season.
  • The Soaring Eagles added three more goals in the third period as Lugge added her second of the contest at the 6:42 mark to make it 5-0. Holley Riva ’23 tallied the assist on Lugge’s fourth goal of the weekend for EC.
  • At the 9:37 mark of the third period, Kelly Millins ’23 found the back of the net for the Soaring Eagles to make it 6-0 as Boyle and Meeder helped to set up Elmira’s sixth goal of the contest. Sabrina Shvartsman ’25 closed the scoring for the Purple & Gold with a power play goal at the 12:18 mark of the frame. Meeder and Emma Bradbury ’26 were credited with the assists on Shvartsman’s tally.
  • The Soaring Eagles finished the contest 2-for-4 on the power play, while Plymouth State finished 0-for-1 on the power play. EC held a 52-13 advantage in shots on goal and won 39-of-55 faceoffs in the contest.
  • Elmira netminder Chloe Beaubien ’23 recorded her second shutout of the season for the Soaring Eagles after stopping all 13 shots that she faced in the contest.
