MIAC women’s hockey standouts Rausch, Vrieze earn All-America honors

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — Two women’s hockey players from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) received CCM Hockey/AHCA All-America honors on Thursday. Hamline forward Sophie Rausch and Gustavus defender Kayla Vrieze were both selected to the West First Team.

Rausch (Jr. | Fergus Falls, Minn.) appeared in all 25 games for the Pipers, leading the team in scoring with 21 goals and 13 assists for 34 points. She finished the season with a MIAC-leading four game-winning goals, 0.84 goals per game, and 1.36 points per game. She posted multiple-goal games on five occasions, which included a hat trick in a 5-2 victory over St. Scholastica on December 3. Rausch tallied a season-high four points in an 8-0 victory over Bethel in the MIAC Playoff quarterfinals on February 26, when she registered two goals and two assists.

Vrieze (Sr. | Eagan, Minn.) has started in all 29 games this season on the blue line for the Gusties, leading all defenders in scoring with 18 points on five goals and 13 assists. Vrieze owns a +21 rating with four power-play goals and two-game winning goals. A first-line defender, Vrieze has helped the Gusties lead all of NCAA women’s hockey with 16 team shutouts. The Gustie defense also allows just 1.1 goals and 13.2 shots on average per game.
