Soaring Eagles Back in Win Column with 6-0 Shutout Against NEC

PINE VALLEY, N.Y. – Claire Meeder ’23 opened the scoring for the No. 11 Elmira College women’s ice hockey program for a second consecutive night as the Soaring Eagles recorded a 6-0 shutout against the New England College Pilgrims on Saturday in NEHC action.

TEAM RECORDS: Elmira (11-4-1, 8-1-1 NEHC), NEC (5-12-0, 1-10-0 NEHC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Meeder would get the Soaring Eagles onto the scoreboard at the 5:19 mark of the first period after taking a pass from Erika Goleniak ’25 along the boards. Meeder’s tally would be the lone scoring of the frame, despite EC recording 18 shots on goal.
  • Emily Lenzen ’24 would score once again against her former team as her goal at the 2:18 mark of the second period gave the Purple & Gold a 2-0 advantage. Anna Lugge ’27 followed with a goal at the 7:31 mark after redirecting a shot by Katie Manning ’25 from the point to make it 3-0.
  • The Soaring Eagles would stretch the lead to 4-0 at the 9:44 mark as Sophie Compeau ’25 beat the goalkeeper after an initial shot was taken by Alayna Toole ’26. Piper Andrews ’26 extended the advantage to 5-0 at the 12:53 mark as Holley Riva ’23 would get credit for the assist.
  • Manning would complete the scoring in the frame as her goal at the 14:47 mark made it 6-0 in favor of the Purple & Gold. Compeau and Mandy McCarrick ’26 were credited with the assists on Manning’s tally.
  • Chloe Beaubien ’23 earned her fifth win of the season between the pipes for the Soaring Eagles after stopping 11 shots for her third shutout. The Soaring Eagles were almost automatic in winning faceoffs on the night, going 52-for-10. Meeder (16), Lenzen (15), and Andrews (10) paced EC in the faceoff circle.
