Soaring Eagles Put Up Five in Matchup Against NEC

HENNIKER, N.H. – Elmira men’s ice hockey continued its string of road games on Saturday afternoon when it traveled to New England College to face off against the Pilgrims. After scoring just a minute and a half into the game, the Soaring Eagles did not relinquish their lead, and after five goals from five different players, they picked up the win by a final of 5-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Soaring Eagles started off on the front foot, scoring just 1:33 into the match when Amedeo Mastrangeli ’24 found the back of the net for his second goal of the season. Janis Vizbelis ’24 was credited with the assist for the Purple & Gold.
  • Less than one minute later Elmira notched another goal, this time thanks to Kerfalla Toure ’26 who scored his fifth goal of the season and gave Elmira the early 2-0 lead just over two minutes into the game. Joel Pavey ’25 assisted the goal for EC.
  • That was all the scoring either team saw in the first period, and the game remained 2-0 until eight minutes into the second when New England College scored its first goal of the game to cut Elmira’s lead in half.
  • The Soaring Eagles did not take long to respond, as a Nicholas Domitrovic ’24 goal gave them back their two goal cushion at the 12:33 mark in the second period. Shawn Kennedy ’24 was credited with the assist on the goal. This was Domitrovic’s 14th goal of the season and Kennedy’s 16th assist, both leading the team in those respective categories.
  • Elmira tacked on another goal with under a minute remaining in the second period, this time with Kennedy putting the puck into the net, with Jordan Gonzalez ’24 and Ryan Reifler ’24 assisting his 11th goal of the season, bringing the score to 4-1.
  • Elmira maintained its three-goal advantage through the first 13 minutes of the final period until another Pilgrim goal brought the score to 4-2 with six and a half minutes remaining in the game.
  • EC was able to hang on to its lead for the rest of the game, and added another goal into an empty net at the 19:02 mark in the third, with Reifler scoring the goal to seal the win for Elmira.
  • Brody Haynes ’26 started the game in goal for the Soaring Eagles, making 24 saves during the game.

The Soaring Eagles return home on Friday, January 19, at 7:00 p.m. when they take on the Huskies of Southern Maine.
