Soaring Eagles Head into Winter Recess with 7-0 Victory over Brockport on Saturday

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Elmira College men’s ice hockey team picked up a win over SUNY Brockport on Saturday afternoon, heading into the winter recess after a 7-0 victory over the Golden Eagles. Elmira, who had seven different goal scorers on the afternoon, were paced by Shawn Kennedy ’24 and Janis Vizbelis ’24, who each recorded a goal and an assist in the contest.

Kyle Curtin ’26 would finish the afternoon with 31 saves in net, tallying his second shutout of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • It would take 16:49 for the game to see its first goal, as Jared Smith ’24 notched the opener with just minutes remaining in the contest on an assist from Stephan McDonald ’27. 
  • Holding a 1-0 lead heading into the second, Elmira would see four second period goals as Shane Haviland ’24, Vizbelis, Ryan Reifler ’24, and Kennedy would each score in the period to put the Soaring Eagles ahead 5-0. On the goals, Kennedy, Vizbelis, and Chance Gorman ’24 would each record assists. 
  • Elmira would extend its lead in the third, scoring a pair of final-period goals as the defenseman pair of  Amedeo Mastrangeli ’24 and Mitch Haight ’24 would each find the back of the net. For Mastrangeli and Haight, it marked their first goals of the season. 
  • Curtin would make ten saves in the first, eight in the second, and 13 in the third to secure victory for the Soaring Eagles.
