Nicksic’s Two Goals Help Soaring Eagles Past Salem State

PINE VALLEY, N.Y. – The Soaring Eagles returned home for the first time this season on Friday, November 10, when they faced off against the Vikings of Salem State. Elmira got its first goal halfway through the first period before scoring four more for the rest of the game, cruising to a 5-0 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Payton Nicksic ’26 opened the scoring at the 9:58 mark of the first period on a shot from the top of the face-off circle, finding the corner of the net for her second goal of the season. The goal was set up by Sabrina Shvartsman ’25 and Claire Meeder ’23.
  • Elmira got its second goal at the 6:30 mark of the second period with an Erika Goleniak ’25 goal assisted by Kelly Millins ’23, giving the Soaring Eagles a 2-0 lead.
  • Goleniak set up Elmira’s next goal at the 10:06 mark in the second period, with her and Emma Bradbury ’26 assisting Alayna Toole ’26 on the power play for her second goal in as many games.
  • The Soaring Eagles netted another goal seven minutes into the third period when Emily Lenzen ’24 collected a saved shot from Anna Lugge ’27 and powered it past the goaltender. Mandy McCarrick ’26 also helped set up the goal, bringing Elmira’s lead to four.
  • Nicksic got her second goal of the night and Elmira’s fifth on another effort from distance, putting it past the goaltender and giving Elmira a 5-0 advantage at the 12:30 mark of the third period. Lugge and Lexi Hoffmann ’24 were credited with assists on the goal, with Lugge picking up her second assist of the evening.
  • Leonie-Louise Kuehberger ’25 picked up her second shutout of the season between the pipes for the Soaring Eagles, saving six shots in the game. Two of her saves came in the first period, one came in the second, and three in the third period. Elmira held a 61-6 shot advantage in the game over Salem State.
